Natasha Akpoti Defies Kogi Rally Ban, Proceeds with Eid Visit

Despite the Kogi State Government’s ban on rallies and public gatherings, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has vowed to proceed with her scheduled visit to Kogi Central for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The senator, currently suspended by the Senate following her clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, had earlier announced plans to celebrate Sallah with her constituents. However, on Monday, March 31, the state government imposed a restriction on public gatherings, citing security concerns.

Kogi Govt Cites Security Threats, Bans Rallies

In an official statement, Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information, revealed that while Kogi enjoyed a peaceful Sallah celebration, new intelligence reports indicated potential security threats.

According to Fanwo, certain individuals were planning to organize violent rallies under the guise of political and religious activities in Kogi Central. To prevent unrest, the government mandated that anyone entering the state with a security convoy must obtain prior clearance from relevant security agencies.

He stated:

“Intelligence reports suggest that some elements intend to stage violent rallies disguised as political or religious gatherings. These actions could lead to chaos and threaten public safety. Consequently, the Kogi State Government has imposed an immediate ban on all rallies and public gatherings until further notice.”

The government acknowledged citizens’ constitutional right to assemble but emphasized that security concerns must take priority.

Natasha’s Media Team Confirms Visit Will Hold

Despite the ban, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team dismissed rumors of cancellation, affirming that her visit to Kogi Central remains unchanged.

“We confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central will proceed as planned. Contrary to online speculation, there has been no official communication from our office regarding any cancellation,” the statement read.

The situation raises questions about potential tensions between the senator and the state government, especially given her recent political challenges. As developments unfold, security agencies may play a critical role in ensuring the visit proceeds without incident.
